Books 24, 25, 26, and 27 were the first four books of the Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow series. Yes, I’m going a bit on a children’s/YA book theme right now. They’re quick, easy, and I’ve got school!
I was very disappointed in the books. I was even more disappointed that Disney not only proudly displays their name on this, but has a publication company so they can display their name on these books even more. As always, Disney bases the story on great legends and myths. The first four books center around the conquistador, Cortes. The story itself is wonderful, full of the mythology that I love (I have a preference for Western mythology…usually so hard to find). The down side of these books, though, are that they’re written like bad fanfiction. This time, I can’t accept that the target audience is the reason why. I can make that excuse for Twilight, but not for this. They’re children, not idiots. Once you get past it, though, and focus more on the story than the writing, it’s actually a very good story.
I just finished the sixth book of the second series, Warriors, the New Prophecy: Sunset.
I’m a little disappointed that it took all six books for the series to finally become engaging. I don’t understand why. Six books of buildup that was just…over. I think the last chapter, which is what it all led up to, lasted something like five pages. Very disappointing.
I watched it for my friend, Sam (Paolo in the video). But it was too frickin’ funny to not share with everyone!
